Louis Bickford

Director, Policymakers and Civil Society Unit; Director, Memory, Museums and Monuments Program

Louis Bickford, a political scientist, has consulted with governments, NGOs, human rights activists, and democratic movements on strategies for confronting the legacies of past abuse in more than a dozen countries. Previously, he was the associate director of the Global Studies Program and a lecturer in International Studies at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Dr. Bickford has worked as a consultant for the Ford Foundation in Chile, and was a visiting researcher at the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences. He earned a PhD at McGill University (1997) and an MA at the New School for Social Research (1993), both in political science, and did additional graduate work at the University of Oslo, Norway. He has published in Human Rights Quarterly and Latin American Research Review, and has contributed chapters to several books, including The Art Of Truth-telling about Authoritarian Rule (2005). He is currently adjunct professor at the Wagner School of New York University and in the Graduate Program in International Affairs (GPIA) at the New School for Social Research.

Samantha Hinds

Founding Manager

Based in New York, Samantha Hinds specializes in post-conflict accountability and cultural production at the intersection of art and politics. Hinds was founding project and content manager of MemoryandJustice.org, which she created during her years as Program Coordinator at the International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ).

Founding Editor of the forthcoming FORTNIGHT journal, Hinds regularly consults for a variety of nonprofit institutions on creative engagement, strategic communications and fundraising. Her most enduring engagement is as Web and Advancement Consultant for the Documentation Affinity Group (DAG) project of Middle East Alternatives. The DAG is a long-running international coalition of documentation centers that share strategic and technical resources to establish truth and combat impunity.
